 Academy of Dermatology Veterinary Technicians
Pittsburgh Veterinary Dermatology

We are a small animal specialty veterinary service operating in a large state of the art hospital. Our team of technicians and assistants work alongside our 2 Board Certified Dermatologists to help with a wide range of skin diseases. Tasks and Job Duties (Certified):
 Patient Care under direct veterinary supervision:
 Anesthesia: induction, intubation, maintenance and recovery, intravenous sedation
 Establish open airway
 Administer resuscitative oxygen procedures
 Administer external cardiac resuscitation
 Administer resuscitative drugs, in the event of cardiac arrest

 Patient Care under indirect veterinary supervision (unless patient is under anesthesia, then direct veterinary supervision is required):
  Perform diagnostic imaging
  Perform intravenous catheterization
  Administer immunizations, which are not required by law to be administered in the presence of a licensed veterinarian
  Administer and apply medications and treatments by routes, including intramuscular, intravenous and subcutaneous
  Perform cardiac monitoring
  Perform appropriate procedures to control bleeding

 Patient care with no supervision:
 Emergency treatment (defined as tasks listed under #1 and #2) when patient has been placed in a life-threatening condition and immediate treatment is   necessary to sustain the patient’s life Animal restraint
·Temperature, Pulse, Respiration, Weight, Prep, Shaving, Scrubbing, Bandages
 Maintain patient medical files (written and electronic)
 Pharmacy: drug conversion, labeling, accuracy, filling
 Kennel duties
 Act as a liaison between Clients, Referring Veterinarians, co-workers, etc.
 Responsible for a clean work station and treatment area
 Complete any additional tasks not specified and/or assignments as requested by the Owner Doctor, Associate Doctor(s), and/or Department Manager.

Tasks and Job Duties (non-Certified):

10. Patient Care under direct veterinary supervision:

· Perform diagnostic imaging

· Perform intravenous catheterization

· Administer immunizations, which are not required by law to be administered in the presence of a licensed veterinarian

· Administer and apply medications and treatments by routes, including intramuscular, intravenous and subcutaneous

· Apply bandages

· Perform cardiac monitoring

· Perform appropriate procedures to control bleeding

· Maintain anesthesia and monitor recovery from anesthesia

11. Patient Care under immediate veterinary supervision:

· Administer anesthesia including induction, intubation and intravenous sedation

· Establish an open airway

· Administer resuscitative oxygen procedures

· Administer external cardiac resuscitation

· Administer resuscitative drugs, in the event of cardiac arrest

12. Patient care with no veterinary supervision:

· Animal restraint

· TPR

· Weight

· Prep

· Shaving

· Scrubbing

Skills/Abilities:

1. Knowledge of species, breeds and general animal behavior

2. Ability to produce detailed and accurate work

3. Ability to work well with others and promote a team atmosphere

4. Must possess excellent time management skills

5. Ability to recognize problems and communicate to other clinical staff in and out of the department that need to know

6. Ability to work in stressful situations in a fast-paced, close work environment

7. Must possess the ability to promote an atmosphere of mutual respect

8. Must have general computer knowledge and use

9. Ability to utilize equipment and tools as required by department protocols

10. Ability to apply general veterinary medical knowledge

Education (Certified):

1. Graduate of Accredited Veterinary Technician School required.

2. Pennsylvania Certified Veterinary Technician required.

Education (Non-Certified):

1. High School Diploma or GED required.

2. Veterinary Technician degree preferred.

Experience:

One to three years of experience as a Veterinary Technician preferred.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $16.00 - $19.00 per hour
